How Modern Liberals Think

There have been numerous times in the past where I have said it is necessary to know how liberals think and how they view the world in order to understand what we are up against as conservatives. Well, this is my favorite political video because it does just that and does it better than any speech or essay I have seen. The speech was given by Evan Sayet at The Heritage Foundation a few years ago and absolutely describes liberal thought perfectly. Sayet used to work for Bill Maher and has been part of the Hollywood establishment. The telling of his change to conservatism is captivating and well worth your time. I have sent this video to many, including liberals, and they have no answer for it, as it is that well thought out and presented. If you have the time, watch this important video.

Political Musings......

As usual, I feel it important to pass along good information. Here are some great articles and links to cover some interesting topics including the war on terror and the democrats (socialists). I have also included some great quotes as well. Enjoy!

“Congress is spending us into a hole. We hear about the cost of earmarks and the Iraq war. But what about ‘entitlements’? That’s the government’s ironic term for programs that transfer money from people who earned it to people who didn’t. Entitlement? How can you be entitled to someone else’s money? To finance ‘entitlement’ programs, the government threatens force against the taxpayers who provide the money. Why are people who favor compulsion called humanitarians, while those who favor freedom are stigmatized as greedy?... What we really need is a top-to-bottom freeing of the economy, including the health-care industry, and massive cuts in government both spending and taxes. This would leave us wealthy enough to take care of ourselves, with private charity assisting those who can’t manage.” —John Stossel

On being CONSERVATIVE...read this!

“I would define a conservative, first as one who believes in the Constitution as it is written. That takes care of free speech, freedom of religion, the right to petition the government, the right to keep and bear arms and, in the words of William O. Douglas in one of his saner moments, ‘the right to be let alone. Second, a conservative believes in small, limited government at every level. Along with this he believes strongly in individual responsibility. That is, a person or a family should take care of itself and turn for help to government only when all other means have been exhausted. It also means that society, before government, has a duty to take care of its own. Government should be a resource of last resort. Third, a conservative believes taxes should be levied for the purpose of financing the limited responsibilities of government such as providing for the common defense, catching and incarcerating criminals, minting money and filling potholes. Taxes should not be levied for the purpose of redistributing wealth... One other thing I think a conservative believes is that the parents, not government, are and should be responsible for the upbringing and behavior of their children.” —Lyn Nofziger

Here is an article that is so important, it should be passed on to everyone. The information that is put forth by the democrats (socialists) is one of half truths and outright lies. This article should be read by everyone who wishes to have an open and honest debate concerning the war Iraq and its justifications. It can be found at http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-kirchick16-2008jun16,0,4808346.story

John Yoo has written one of the best commentaries on the recent Supreme Court decision to allow the "detainees" (prisoners of war) the right to the civilian courts to protest their incarceration. A right, by the way, that our own military does not have. The article is called The Supreme Court Goes To War and it is a must read. It can be found at: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121366596327979497.html?mod=opinion_main_commentaries

In one of the more honest approaches to the war in Iraq, The Economist tells how Iraq is becoming more stable. Just this morning I was reading about countries investing in Iraq because public opinion has turned and the situation is improving. For those of you who don't know, we are winning the war on terror. The article is again a must read and can be found at http://www.economist.com/opinion/displayStory.cfm?Story_ID=11535688

My Run -In With Obama

In January of 2007, my brother and I were traveling home and sitting at a traffic light on Jackson and Loomis in the great city of Chicago. As we were sitting there discussing the days events, I happened to be looking over at one of the local businesses, a camera shop, when the door swung open and a tall, lean, and lanky man walked out of the shop and began fumbling with something in his hand. I immediately recognized the man before me as one Barack Obama, our democratic senator who was more well known for a political speech in 2004 than anything else. I alerted my brother to whose presence we were lucky enough to embrace and said, "Hey there's Barack Obama!" I rolled the window down and yelled to the senator from the Soviet satellite state of Illinois, "Hey, Barack!" The senator raised his head and for a brief moment forgot about his task, as he raised his hand to wave to us and shout "What's up?" The senator continued on and began fumbling again with whatever it was he had in his hand, the light turned green, and we continued on our way home.

We sat in silence for a moment when finally I said, "Its hard to believe but we may have just seen the future President of the United States." See, I knew the democratic party was grooming this well spoken black man for a future shot at the presidency. But what I didn't know then was that it would be so soon. I had heard the speech he gave at the democratic (socialist) national convention as the key note speaker and knew how prestigious an honor it was to be able to address a national audience. But not in my wildest dreams did I think the young and inexperienced senator from Illinois was going to join the next fight for the highest office in the land.

There are many times when I see Obama on the television or hear a clip on the radio and I am reminded of our brief encounter. There was no security or secret service around him, no screaming mobs of fans swooning at every blink of his eye, no one fighting to touch him or take his picture, no fainting women, no one...............no one. See, the senator didn't need the security then because he was largely unknown to the common man who doesn't pay too much attention to the political world. But only a year and a half later, he is one of two men who stand before the doorway to history and will only get to enter the doorway if the American people welcome him in this November 4th.

How could it be that a man who was relatively an unknown a year and a half ago, a man who has some questionable relationships with racist preachers, a man who has said he would end the war in Iraq regardless of what the generals have to say, a man who has a questionable voting history in the U.S. Senate when he was there,  and a whole host of other questions, be on the brink of capturing the Presidency of the United States? And whats more frustrating is that we are chastised by liberals and Obama's supporters for trying to find out a little more about a man who came out of political obscurity to be the front runner for the office. The fact is we need to find out as much about Obama as we can. He doesn't have the long career in politics that John McCain has had so there is very little to go off. I think if the American people dig a little deeper to see what Barack Obama stands for, they will run from him like a collapsing, burning building. We just need to dig.

More Political Musings......

1)  While I think most of us conservatives differ tremendously with our socialist (democrats) counterparts, it is important to pass on great quotes or statements concerning the liberals ability to not be able to see the forest for the trees. We begin with a great quote from The Heritage Foundation's economist J.D. Foster, when he says this about the democrats:

“They propose higher tobacco taxes to discourage smoking. They propose higher taxes on liquor to discourage drinking. They propose vastly higher taxes through cap-and-trade contraptions to reduce carbon emissions. So what do they expect will happen when they raise income tax rates?”

Having said all of that, The Patriot Post covers the news concerning our democratically controlled houses of Congress with this:

"Democrats in the House and Senate passed the $3.1-trillion 2009 budget plan this week, a nonbinding resolution, as they patted themselves on the back for their fiscal responsibility. Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-ND) boasted that the budget plan would “strengthen the economy and create jobs. It will provide tax cuts for the middle class, and it will restore fiscal responsibility by balancing the books by 2012 and maintaining balance in 2013.” The fine print reveals the secret to this promise. The plan assumes that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will cost nothing after next year. It also anticipates that the Bush tax cuts will expire by 2011. In other words, Democrats are about to hit Americans with the largest tax hike in history. And that doesn’t include the Alternative Minimum Tax, which Democrats continue to ignore as it prepares to hit more than 20 million middle-class families."

2)   I feel it important once again to draw attention to the fact we are destroying Al Qaeda around the world. But in spite of the many accomplishments of our wonderful men and women in our Armed Forces, Nancy Pelosi had the unbelievable gall to utter the following:

“Whatever the military success, and progress that may have been made, the surge didn’t accomplish its goal, and some of the success of the surge is the good will of the Iranians—they decided in Basra when the fighting would end, they negotiated that cessation of hostilities—the Iranians.” —House Speaker Nancy Pelosi

3)    In another show of weakness and appeasement, Great Britain refused to stand up for its culture and Christian heritage by telling two Christian evangelicals to stop handing out leaflets in a Muslim neighborhood or face the threat of being beat up. Now here is where the story gets confusing because British authorities seem to be saying they are not willing to get involved should the Christians get attacked by Muslims. In fact, it almost sounds as if they are saying they would deserve the attack. Am I wrong or is this appeasement?

Obama's Buddy Found Guilty of Corruption

A long time friend and business associate of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, Antoin "Tony" Rezko was found guilty today on 16 of 24 counts of corruption. Rezko was accused of raising money for political candidates, chiefly Illinois govenor Rod Blagojevich and Illinois Senator Barack Obama. Obama, as we all know, is now the Democratic presidential candidate and this link to a convicted fundraiser on corruption charges could be the icing on the cake for the Illinois senator.  It will prove a political liability for Barack Obama, who once counted Rezko as a friend and fundraiser, as the likely Democratic presidential nominee heads into the general election campaign against John McCain. Obama said he was saddened by the conviction. And for those of you who deny a link between Tony Rezko and Barack Obama, I would direct you to the Chicago Tribune's web page specifically designed to show the link between the two. It can be found at   http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/chi-obamarezko-connect.swf,0,4929416.flash and I would advise everyone to pass this along to as many as possible.

The RNC's Mike Duncan released this statement today:
“On the day Barack Obama hoped to unite his party after wheezing over the finish line and claiming the Democrat nomination, a jury in his hometown of Chicago convicted his longtime friend and fundraiser Tony Rezko of multiple felonies.  This is further proof that Obama’s high-flying rhetoric is just that and in no way represents the kind of change our nation demands.  Today’s verdict and Obama’s friendship with Rezko raise serious questions about whether he has the judgment to serve as president.”

The Roots of The Left -Part 2

One cannot discuss socialism or communism without briefly discussing the "father of Communism", Karl Marx. Marx is most famously known for The Communist Manifesto, written along with Freidrich Engels, in which he lays out his assessment on sociological and political theories. His approach is indicated by the opening line of the The Communist Manifesto (1848): “The history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles”.  This line is very important as it sums up the lefts criticisms of capitalism and the American economy. In fact, one of the major precepts of defining struggle in the capitalist society by socialists (communists) is to always shape their argument from the view of the oppressed vs. the oppressor. No one uses this method more effectively or deliberately than todays Democratic party. You can see it every election cycle as they go out to the base of their party and proclaim..... You are being oppressed! Think about it.........If you're black, a woman, a homosexual, a Hispanic or any kind of ethnic minority, etc., chances are you're being oppressed and the usual culprit to the Democrats is conservative, white, Christian men, who run all the big corporations. Yes, this "party of the people" has used class struggle to keep them in positions of power for years, but I digress. The class struggle Marx refers to is  synonymous with class conflict and it is this conflict that Democrats use to stir emotion and shirk responsibility for the empty promises made at election time by blaming their failures on the "oppressors".

No where is this more apparent than with the black turnout every election cycle for Democrats. It was estimated that 90% of all blacks who voted in the 2004 Presidential election, voted for John Kerry. And we see this trend continue to trickle down the lines to our local and municipal elections where in most large cities like Philadelphia and Chicago, there has been a heavy bureaucratic machine controlled by Democrats in place for generations. This idea of infusing race struggles with class struggles goes back to communist-Marxist ideology. In a letter to Friedrich Engels in 1882 Karl Marx wrote: "You know very well where we found our idea of class struggle; we found it in the work of the French historians who talked about the race struggle."  Perhaps I will let the Democratic Socialists of America make my point for me. The following are direct quotes taken from their website:

"The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States, and the principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International. DSA's members are building progressive movements for social change while establishing an openly socialist presence in American communities and politics.

"At the root of our socialism is a profound commitment to democracy, as means and end. We are activists committed not only to extending political democracy but to demanding democratic empowerment in the economy, in gender relations, and in culture. Democracy is not simply one of our political values but our means of restructuring society. Our vision is of a society in which people have a real voice in the choices and relationships that affect the entirety of our lives. We call this vision democratic socialism - a vision of a more free, democratic and humane society.

We are socialists because we reject an international economic order sustained by private profit, alienated labor, race and gender discrimination, environmental destruction, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo.

We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane international social order based both on democratic planning and market mechanisms to achieve equitable distribution of resources, meaningful work, a healthy environment, sustainable growth, gender and racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships."

There is so much imporatant information in the preceeding paragraphs that I will refer to them quite often as I make my points. If you have to read them again, do so. It is important to understand what they are saying. Essentially, when they say they will use democracy as a "means and an end", they are saying they will use democracy itself to bring it down and implement their "socialist utopia". They will use our democratic principles of  free press and expression and the right to assemble, among many others, to light the flame of "revolution". They know that in a true democracy, as long as the argument is put forth as a struggle, the means to destroy it lie within its freedoms. Also, notice how they continually refer to racial, gender and economic equality as struggles. Now think of how a government would go about implementing the changes necessary to promote so-called racial, gender, and economic equality. Perhaps they could support hiring quotas based on race and gender regardless of the qualifications of the applicant by continually lowering the standards of excellence. Perhaps they could redistribute wealth from the people who have, to the people who have not. Do these sound familiar? We already have them through "affirmative action" and a stifling tax policy that merely suffocates the free market principles that capitalism involves. It should be noted that I am all for equality. But how we achieve equality is through individual responsibility and the right to pursue a better life based on merit and achievement that the capitalist system thrives on. Success is always the reward for hard work. Democrats want to skip the hard work part and punish those who are successful by taking more of their money and giving it to their constiuents through "entitlement" programs. And the cycle of life continues for their people, the opressed,  represented by the "party of the people", the Democrats.

Let me once again go to the source for their positions. Here is another exerpt from the Democratic Socialists of America:

"A democratic commitment to a vibrant pluralist life assumes the need for a democratic, responsive, and representative government to regulate the market, protect the environment, and ensure a basic level of equality and equity for each citizen. In the 21st century, such regulation will increasingly occur through international, multilateral action. But while a democratic state can protect individuals from domination by inordinately powerful, undemocratic transnational corporations, people develop the social bonds that render life meaningful only through cooperative, voluntary relationships. Promoting such bonds is the responsibility of socialists and the government alike."

It is amazing how wonderful the idea of equality sounds. But a closer look at the policies and the means to achieve this "utopia" begs a questioning of just how they hope to achieve their goals. And this is where an apathetic and un-informed electorate comes into play. The people of this nation are not interested in politics and ideologies. They see government interference into the marketplace to achieve equality as a constitutional mandate.  And so the march to socialism goes on.
