UPDATE: Obama Blows Off Troops

It seems the Obama campaign has really stepped in it concerning a campaign decision to cancel a scheduled trip to visit injured American soldiers in Germany. I made mention of the story yesterday with a link to a Reuters clip concerning the war of words between Obama's camp and the Pentagon. But now it seems Obama senior campaign strategist Robert Gibbs is backing away from the campaigns original statement in regards to Obama not honoring the commitment made to the injured American troops by saying it was the Pentagon who said "they should not come". However, earlier today on MSNBC, Gibbs said, “We never said that the Pentagon prevented us from going.” This is just the sort of thing that could take the wind out Obama's sails as a majority of Americans already feel John McCain is better suited to be our Commnader In Chief.

This has definitely become an issue for team Obama and has certainly hurt his bump in the polls just after his world tour. As I stated yesterday, Americans will never stand for their fighting men and women to be dis-honored and it appears that is just what Barack Obama has done. No one has issued a more poignant criticism than Michael Durant, US Army (Ret.), on Barack Obama’s canceled visit to wounded troops in Germany. On October 3, 1993, while piloting an MH60 Black Hawk in Somalia, Durant was shot down and held captive by hostile forces. He was released 11 days later. Durant had this to say about Obama's decision:

"Over the last week, Barack Obama made time in his busy schedule to hold a rally with 200,000 Germans in Berlin, hold a press conference with French President Nicholas Sarkozy in Paris, and hold a solo press conference in front of 10 Downing Street in London. The Obama campaign had also scheduled a visit with wounded U.S. troops at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, but this stop was canceled after it became clear that campaign staff, and the traveling press corps, would not be allowed to accompany Senator Obama.

"I've spent time at Ramstein recovering from wounds received in the service of my country, and I'm sure that Senator Obama could have made no better use of his time than to meet with our men and women in uniform there. That Barack Obama believes otherwise casts serious doubt on his judgment and calls into question his priorities."

This latest story simply adds fuel to the fire over the growing criticism about an Obama presidency. Its simply another question mark concerning his judgement and is added to an already long list of questions about his experience and leadership capabilities.
